17/12/2001 – Two gold and one silver for Xavi Torres in Benicarló.

The swimmer debuted with good results in this season 2001-2002. In Benicarló, Torres was proclaimed winner in 150 m. medley with a time of 2.43.97 and in 50 meters breastroke with 55.58. In 200 free (3.17.57) he only saw overcome by the paralympic champion in Sydney, Richard Orive, that also achieved a new world record of short course in class S4.

Xavi Torres was shown quite satisfied of the results. The marks were discreet although it is something habitual in these season beginnings. Torres was specially happy of their victory in 50 brastroke when being imposed the catalan Miguel Luque (current paralimpic champion) and Vicente Gil (Spanish Champion in the year 2000) that were second and third respectively. Xavi Torres’ potent turn was decisive for that victory.

Torres noticed in some moments the excess of volume carried out in the last weeks and even in the previous days to the test followed its preparation for the 24 hours of swimming with David Meca, swiming between 8.000 and 11.000 meters in the new aquatic facilities located in Requena.

In the International Swimming Open of Benicarló it is necessary to highlight especially Richard Orive’s performances, Teresa Perales, David Leveq and Juan Francisco Jiménez.
